There is no doubt I am a huge Citizen fan, so when I find a timepiece oddity from their past, it always seems to pique my interest – case in point, the Super Tough Promaster Robert Swan watch.

This time around it is the 1975 Citizen Spaceman (reference: Citizen Chronograph 67-9178) that caught my eye! This 42mm cased chrono beast transcends time (pun intended), with its white dial, black and red dial markers and a hint of orange to give it some pop.
The caliber in this vintage Citizen is the 8110 – a selfwinding chronograph movement. This movement wound in both directions, was able to count up to 12hrs, present day and date complications, offered a flyback mechanism and a column wheel. Not bad for movement approaching 50+ years.

What makes this watch stand out for me is the tachymeter. I do prefer tachymeters to be internal, under the crystal, but on this occasion, the black and yellow gold (which shimmers in light) paired with the scale numbers printed perpendicular on the bezel, just top off this peculiar and unique Citizen.
Before you scurry off to hunt one of these rare vintage beauties, be warned that if you do find one, be prepared to outlay some serious cash (upwards of AUD$900). As far as vintage Citizen watches go, this one is high on my bucket list.
