Seiko Makes a Splash with the SPB451, SPB453 & SPB455!
This will be a surprise to no one – Seiko has unveiled its latest generation of the 1965 Diver’s Modern Re-Interpretation line, ushering in a new era of style and innovation for watch enthusiasts everywhere.
Say goodbye to the old and hello to the new as Seiko revamps its Prospex divers with the SPB453, SPB451, and SPB455 models, promising a fresh take on what it means to sport a Seiko on your wrist. Oh how I wish Seiko would drop the Prospex ‘X’ logo from the dial of these higher end watches, but I digress…..
Dubbed the “24MAS” in line with Seiko’s naming conventions, these 2024 divers are set to make waves in the watch world (Ed: enough with the puns!!). The trio includes the sleek SPB453 in black, the vibrant SPB451 in blue, and the exclusive SPB455 with a charcoal grey dial and bezel accented by gold details that add a touch of luxury to your wrist game. With identical specs across all three models – 40mm wide, 13mm thick, and 46.4mm lug to lug – these watches are not just timepieces; they’re statements of style and sophistication.

But wait, there’s more! Seiko has upped the ante with these new models by increasing water resistance from 200 meters to 300 meters, thanks to a redesigned caseback that is both thinner and stronger. Comfort is key with the SPB453, SPB451, and SPB455 as Seiko introduces smaller links and a compact clasp on the steel bracelet for an enhanced wearing experience. As an added bonus, the special edition SPB455 comes with a grey textile strap made from recycled plastic, showcasing Seiko’s commitment to sustainability and style.

One of the most notable changes in these new models is the shift of the date display from three to four-thirty for improved legibility. This adjustment allows for a full luminous marker at three o’clock, enhancing visibility in any lighting condition. With a color-matched date wheel peeking through a small aperture between markers, Seiko has once again demonstrated its attention to detail and functionality in watch design. This is a highly contentious move by Seiko, but they don’t care, as these watches sell.

Inside these revamped timepieces beats the heart of innovation – the new 6R55 movement. Offering an incremental improvement in power reserve (72 hours vs. 70 hours), this movement elevates the performance of the Prospex divers to new heights. Priced starting at AU$1,995 for the black or blue models (SPB453 and SPB451) and AU$2,350 for the special edition charcoal-toned SPB455, these watches are not just accessories; they’re investments in style and craftsmanship (Ed: that’s a bit of a stretch!).
As we dive into this exciting new chapter of Seiko’s watchmaking legacy, one thing is clear – the SPB453, SPB451 and SPB455 are more than just timepieces; they’re symbols of innovation and style that will stand the test of time on your wrist. So gear up, dive in, and embrace the future of timekeeping with Seiko’s latest timepieces!
