Sometimes, you got to eat some humble pie!

I have to admit (as attested in my articles on here), when I heard that Omega X Swatch was going to release a ‘Snoopy’ inspired watch to celebrate the two year anniversary of their MoonSwatch release, I was more than a little skeptical. The idea of another watch being added to the range, and the total chaos it would cause (flippers/scalpers love these MoonSwatch watches) once released, I didn’t hold back on my bemusement of what I thought was another (very clever) marketing gimmick from the Swatch Group.

I wasn’t shy about voicing my doubts. I bagged on the idea to anyone who would listen, convinced that this watch couldn’t possibly live up to the hype. But once they released the first of two MoonPhase watches, the white Full Moon Snoopy (ref: SO33W700) curiosity about this watch was gnawing at me, and I found myself drawn to reading reviews and watching videos about the watch. The more I learned, the more intrigued I became. Could there really be something special here that I was missing? I mean, it’s just a white bit of plastic, I mean Bioceramic, with some Omega branding and Snoopy adorned on one of its complications.

Despite my initial reluctance, I decided that I wanted this watch. However, as I had predicted in my total chaos story, I kept going to the Swatch Store on Collins Street in Melbourne to snag a MISSION TO THE MOONPHASE in person, only to be told, “No, we don’t have any in stock”. The Flippers had cornered the market!

I did eventually find one online (from a seller that wasn’t out to flip it for a huge profit), which arrived earlier this week. Upon opening the box, I was immediately drawn to the moonphase complication, which I thought was an elegant and cool touch. The addition of the iconic Snoopy character added a delightful sense of whimsy that was unexpectedly charming.

There was something about this watch that just worked. The blend of Omega’s unmistakable Speedmaster branding, plus Swatch’s playful design philosophy, resulted in a piece that was a lot of fun. It challenged my preconceived notions about what a collaborative watch should be.

But it wasn’t just the craftsmanship that won me over. The connection to the Apollo missions, with Snoopy symbolising NASA’s pursuit of excellence, resonated deeply with me – I always wanted to become an astronaut or an astronomer, but alas, it never happened. It reminded me of the power of collaboration and the joy of exploring new possibilities – themes that have always inspired me.

Ever since taking the plunge in adding the Omega X Swatch MISSION TO THE MOONPHASE – FULL MOON Snoopy watch to my collection, I have grown to absolutely love it. It’s more than just a watch; it’s a conversation starter, a piece of history, and a reminder that stepping out of my comfort zone can lead to surprising and delightful discoveries.

Every time I have it on and glance at my wrist, I smile. This watch is a testament to the beauty of unexpected collaborations and the joy of keeping an open mind. It’s a reminder that sometimes, what seems like an odd pairing on paper can result in something truly extraordinary. That humble pie sure tastes nice 😉

Here’s to embracing new experiences and finding joy in the unexpected.
