Precision In Every Detail, Indeed!

Sometimes a watch blows your expectations so much, that you are compelled to write about it to tell your fellow watch addicted friends how darn awesome it is!

The watch that has blown my every conceivable expectation I had for it is the Timex Legacy Tonneau Chronograph 42mm (reference: TW2W50000), which is part of Timex’s The Legacy Collection. Oh boy, this watch screams early 70s racer, which is exactly what I was looking for. The 42mm stainless steel tonneau shaped case has amazing sunray style radial brushing on the face, complimented by chamfered polished edges – no photos can do justice to how amazing this looks. The sides of the watch have 4 channels, reminding me of a racing car’s front grille – another excellent touch. The piston like pushers to run/reset the chrono have a great snap to them when deployed. Speaking of snap back, when pressing the 4H pusher, the chrono snaps back to zero just like a quality Valjoux movement would. Speaking of the movement, inside this watch you’ll find Timex’s M08X quartz movement, which hackable! Oh, and the coin edging on the signed crown allows for a good grip, and of course it’s in line with the overall 70s racer aesthetic profile.

Perfectly balanced 42mm tonneau case

Looking at this Timex, I can’t help it think that it reminds me of another cool early 70s watch, the Omega Speedmaster Mark II – but at a fraction of its cost. The black dial on this model is beautifully balanced with the chrono and small seconds complications at the 12, 6 and 9H position and their stunningly polished silver hands. The date at 3H is thankfully white on black, making it very easy to read, and the Timex logo next to it is so non-descript, you would forget that it is there. The chapter ring has a sloping gradient, giving the dial depth. The hour markers are lumed in green, whereas the hour, minute and red chrono hands are lumed in a bright blue – an gorgeous contrast, but I wish it lasts longer.

Stunning lume, just wish it lasted longer

Paired with this watch is a distressed black/grey eco-friendly natural leather strap sourced from the Leather Working Group® (LWG) and enhanced with red accent side stitching near the 22mm wide lugs. This red stitching compliments the big, red chrono hand on the dial, which I absolutely love. I have to say, this Timex is probably the most comfortable Timex watch I have ever worn (thanks in part to the LWG strap). Once it is on, it stays in position, and you never feel like you need to adjust the watch on the wrist due to discomfort. I have no idea what Timex have done to make this so comfy, but I hope it continues!

The LWG distressed strap is super comfortable

I was in the market to look for an Omega Speedy Mark II, but I am so rapt that Timex released these Legacy Collection watches – they hit that early 70s racer mark for me. If you are a fan of that era of watches, then I highly recommend that you check out the Timex Legacy Collection tonneau cased range of watches – they are brilliant!
