In a bold debut, Albishorn, an independent Swiss watchmaker, has partnered with Massena LAB to introduce its first-ever timepiece: the Maxigraph®—a regatta chronograph that blends the elegance of 1930s nautical instruments with modern innovation. Set to make its public premiere at Geneva Watch Days 2024, the Maxigraph is more than just a watch; it’s an “imaginary vintage®” creation, reinterpreting a bygone era of timekeeping with a futuristic twist.

A Timepiece Inspired by a Legendary Race

The Maxigraph takes its inspiration from the historic regatta race, Le Bol d’Or, first held on Lake Geneva in 1939. Albishorn’s vision was to create a timepiece that could have existed during that golden age of sailing. By filling a gap in the history of regatta chronographs, the Maxigraph imagines how such a watch might have looked had the technology of the 1930s been applied to today’s standards.

Designed with both functionality and style in mind, the Maxigraph speaks to watch collectors and sailing enthusiasts alike, combining heritage with cutting-edge technology.

Exploring the Features of the Maxigraph

The Maxigraph is more than a historical homage. It’s a technological marvel designed to meet the needs of today’s sailors while maintaining the aesthetic of the 1930s. Albishorn’s signature “imaginary vintage®” philosophy shines through its design and technical features:

  • Unique Dial Design: The silver dial features a modernist sector layout, designed with readability in mind. Two arcs of luminous material ensure night-time visibility, while a patented 10-minute retrograde regatta countdown at 7 o’clock adds both function and flair.
  • Sleek and Durable Case: Measuring 39mm in diameter and 13mm thick (with a box sapphire crystal), the Maxigraph’s stainless steel case boasts both robustness and elegance. A bidirectional rotating bezel with engraved red and black lacquered numerals adds a nautical touch.
  • Monopusher Movement: The Maxigraph houses a proprietary automatic monopusher chronograph movement, crafted in La Chaux-de-Fonds, with a 64-hour power reserve. The movement’s low profile—just 6.60 mm high—allows the watch to retain a slim, classic feel.
  • Waterproof and Ready for Action: The Maxigraph is waterproof to 100 meters, making it as practical on deck as it is on land.

A New Era for Vintage Enthusiasts

Albishorn’s Maxigraph is a triumph of imagination and craftsmanship. By drawing on the rich history of nautical timepieces and combining it with state-of-the-art watchmaking, Albishorn has created a timepiece that feels both familiar and groundbreaking. With its debut at Geneva Watch Days 2024, the Maxigraph is set to capture the hearts of collectors and sailing enthusiasts alike.

For those looking for a watch that tells a story as rich as its design, the Maxigraph is the perfect blend of past and present.

NOTE: The Albishorn x Massena LAB Maxigraph is being produced in multiple batches of 25 pieces, the first of which was made available on September 12th, 2024. Price: US$4,995 (approx AUD$7,500 excluding GST)
