The one of a kind 18 karat gold G-Shock G-D001 has sold for USD$400,050 at auction!

According to Phillips Auctioneers, the 18-Karat (one of a kind) G-Shock G-D001 was sold for USD$400,050 (AUD$609,500) at their The New York Watch Auction: NINE held on December 10. This watch (lot 79) shattered the estimated price of USD$70,000 to USD$140,000 by a huge margin.

The high-water mark of this watch line came five years ago, when G-SHOCK introduced the “Dream Project,” a small run of 35 solid-gold G-Shock watches that carried a suggested retail price of approximately USD $70,000. For G-SHOCK’s 40th anniversary this year (2023), they pushed the limit even further.

The new G-Shock “Dream Project #2” G-D001 is a one-of-a-kind G-Shock crafted from 18k yellow gold with an exterior case designed with the assistance of generative artificial intelligence (AI). Forty years of G-SHOCK data was provided to a custom AI system that generated a three-dimensional model optimized for factors including structural strength, material characteristics, and processing methods. To say that this is a unique G-SHOCK would be a gross understatement.

The best part of this auction is that the proceeds of sale will go direct to The Nature Conservancy.
